Q: Insurance providers: What is an “in-network” or “out-of-network” provider?
A:
In-network provider = “insurance language” for a therapist who participates with and receives payment from your insurance. The insurance company pays a pre-set, low-cost rate to the provider, and often you will pay a co-pay or nothing at all. Out-of-network provider = “insurance language” for a therapist who DOES NOT participate with your insurance. The out-of-network provider received payment from you, and you can pursue reimbursement from your insurance company.
